Meet Jane


Contained within my story are simple yet priceless lessons that have led me to be a top Sales Executive, Motivational Speaker, Trainer and Personal Achievement Coach with a focus on Leadership, Productivity, Empowerment, Sales & Communications. I love to teach the PRINCIPLES of SUCCESS and then compares how you are using these principles to the HABITS of FAILURE. Your daily habits broadcast to everyone your level of productivity or medicrocity. Where do you fall on that continuum?


Life doesn’t come with a manual ~ it comes with a mother … or a GURU

I was coined The Gutsy GURU on my Radio Show because I was the HOST who reminded YOU that GEE YOU ARE YOU (G U R U).
I found myself working with women who felt very disconnected from their futures. WHY? Because so many had bought into the MYTH there was a Knight in Shining Armor out there looking for them, he would ride in on a stallion, swoop them up–they would kiss–fall in love in under 30 days, and they would ride off into the sunset where they would live happily ever after. Just like learning there was no Santa in first grade, most of these women had to do some myth-busting with me to accept there was NO Knights in Shining Armor coming to save them, there was no ‘happily ever after‘… however … they just might find themselves … cleaning up after the horse!

The simple yet priceless lesson for these women was to stop reading and remembering Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytales
and to start believing that Gee YOU are YOU … and nobody does YOU quite like YOU.

As the GUTSY GURU, I reminded my listeners that it takes GUTS to start over after a divorce.
It takes GUTS to do a LIFE DO-OVER after giving your entire life to your family and then feeling lost when you don’t think you have the skills to start over.
It takes GUTS to dig yourself out after a financial setback with no idea WHERE you are going or HOW you are going to make it.
LIFE doesn’t come with a manual ~ it comes with a mother … or it comes with a GURU

I cut my teeth in SALES working with three Fortune 500 Companies: Levi Strauss + Company; General Mills and Wrangler’s Womenswear as a wholesale clothing representative ‘manning’ the largest U.S. territory.

I was born and raised in a very small conservative midwest farming community where Hans Christian Andersen had seduced most girls into believing her Knight in Shining Armor was a farmer and your greatest wish might be to become his wife.

After my father’s unforeseen early death, I knew if I did not want to be a farmers wife, I would have to work my way through college, I was out of my comfort zone. Now there were a few things I kept playing with that I learned from Hans Christian Andersen about “magnifying my manifesting“. Because I had to work and study, time management was a must and my 4-H background in sewing had lead me into Home Economics, but HOW could I bump up out of my little comfort zone? I went to the MasterMind and ASKED, the next day I saw a bulletin for Butterick Pattern Company seeking a trunk show representative. I think I must have been the only applicant, and I got the job. It was a really cool job with lots of creative options, but I had no business training and this unusual assignment came with no job description! 

Life on the farm had taught me by simply planting the right seed, at the right time, with Mother Natures cooperation, our family could create a huge harvest from just a few seeds. That is all I knew, so I started planting seeds.

Apparently, I went above and beyond the company’s expectation thereby creating a buzz within the BPC office as my name repeatedly surfaced in the General Mills Fashion Marketing Group (Vogue, Monet Jewelry, Ship N Shore). Little did I know, the first female leader, the first executive VP of that Fashion Marketing Group took notice, curiously asking:  Who is Jane Herron?

Executive Vice President Jane Evans (google her) called me wanting to know where I came up with my marketing ideas? That phone conversation led to an invitation for me to come to NYC to attend a national manufacturing show where I would meet my new mentor, an executive vice president who was interested in knowing more about Jane Herron. (knees knocking)

Now here was the glitch, the invitation did not come with a ticket or a hotel reservation, I had to figure all of that out for myself … on a very tiny college budget.  Ohhh – Hans Christian Andersen, I called out: I need to spin some straw into to GOLD, and I need that GOLD fast!!!
Not able to ask my single working mother for $1000 just one month before graduation day, I had to rely upon my own imagination and intuition to get this burning desire met so I could go to NYC.

Hans had taught me a simple yet priceless lesson in his fairytales. He had taught me how to get very quiet, go to my secret place, and ASK the Mastermind for advice, then listen and obey.  Interestingly, I learned this again from Napoleon Hill a couple years later.

The Mastermind told me to go to my Department Head to see if there was any scholarship money that I might apply for.  The Department Head was so thrilled for one of her students to have captured the attention of a Fortune 500 Company, that she found an extra $1000 in her department scholarship fund to “Gift to Me”.

Simple yet priceless lesson? Seek–Ask–Obey

This Hans Christian Andersen fairytale just got better and better because Jane Evans loved my spiritual resourcefulness in ‘magnifying my manifestings‘ so much, she promised to introduced me to her big boss.

Simple yet priceless lesson(s): the hardest crowd to grow out of is the one at the bottom and nothing great ever happens to anyone hanging onto their comfort zone.

How is your NET working?
My NET most certainly was working because after “magnifying my manifesting” with the unexpected $1000 Gift from my Department Head, making it to NYC, meeting my mentor Jane Evans, my manifesting continued to expand beyond my wildest imagination when Jane Evans introduced me [NET-worked me] to her boss, the Executive President of General Mills: Stanley Gillette and he was looking for the right woman to be placed in the largest sales territory with his most established fashion division Ship N Shore.

I do not remember Hans Christian Andersen telling little girls they could get a man’s job, so this was a really BIG CATCH for me since there were NO women with sales territories anywhere in the country, making me the token woman. I would be the one who would be showing top brass what a woman could do in SALES a huge sales territory in an all male dominated field selling womenswear! I did not dare to ask why had there never been successful women in this industry?

After working with Butterick Pattern Company on my college campus, and learning manufacturing sales nationally with General Mills, the company that I had dreamed of working for throughout my college career, another Fortune 500 Company: Levi Strauss & Company, San Francisco-CA hired me to be their first female on their all male national sales team.

Success meets Success : a few years later I was offered an Account Executive position working with the 10 largest west coast accounts with my third Fortune 500 Company: Wranglers Womenwear with a fantastic office at the Los Angeles Merchandise Mart.

While working in the heart of the fashion district of downtown Los Angeles, my NET continued to work as I manifested an opportunity to become an adjunct professor teaching Entrepreneurship at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising [FIDM].
OK … Hans Christian Andersen, now I am going to magnifying my manifesting by casting my net towards the Knight in Shining Armor in my division, the National Sales Manager, because I want to “teach at the next National Sales Meetings”. And POOF … I was there!

Eleven years of selling for three Fortune 500 Companies drew me into SPEAKING & TRAINING.

Now I had sold tangible goods and I had trained intangible concepts, but one day I manifested something I did not see coming and it was completely out of my comfort zone. I was invited to be the opening Keynote Speaker for the Los Angeles Women In Business Conference where there would be 1000 business women in attendance. I thought NO problem … speaking is easy.

The opening keynote SPEAKER sets the tone for the entire conference. You have to be ON POINT and make an IMPACT as the opening keynoter.

This was all very exciting until reality set in: I had never given a SPEECH … delivering a sales presentation or a small sales training is very different from KEYNOTE SPEAKING!

Oh Boy … IF you could have put cymbals on my knees, I could have led a band! What had I agreed to? Where was the shepherd hook to pull me off that stage?

A simple yet priceless lesson about speaking: When someone makes speaking look easy, that is the signal of a professional standing before you. IF it looks easy, they have put in the hours to make it look easy. That is a professional!

Think of OPRAH who read scripts and mastered her craft first on the radio and then on television for 13 years before scoring her own show.  IF you have read her biography, you know how much Oprah values public speaking training and story selling as key components to her success. She would be the first to tell you, if you want to be perceived as a professional in any field, you must be trained to SPEAK!  And if you want to be profitable, you must be able to sell a story.  It is your duty to get trained
